CENTRALIA — A Centralia City councilman has resigned his seat effective immediately.

Councilman David Sauer announced his resignation Wednesday. Sauer was first elected to the seat in 2011 and won reelection to the position for two more terms.

His latest term started in 2019 and was up for reelection in 2023. Mayor Bryan Kuder and the city council will have 60 days to fill Sauer’s vacancy with the appointed person serving until after the April 2023 consolidated election.

Before first running for city council, Sauer had a long career as an attorney and as Marion County Resident Circuit Judge.
