FAYETTE COUNTY — A 20-year-old Springfield man drowned Sunday in the Kaskaskia River near Vandalia.

According to the Fayette County Coroner’s Office, Logan Fornoff, of Springfield, was swimming in the Kaskaskia River south of Vandalia.

Witnesses reported that Fornoff went into a hollow log under the water while hogging for fish and did not resurface.

Coroner’s reports say that Fornoff’s friends recovered him from the river, called 911 and began performing CPR.  Fornoff was then transported to Fayette County Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:26 Sunday night.
