CENTRALIA — Clifford “Skip” Oetjen, 65, of Centralia, passed away Sunday, July 4, 2021, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
He was born January 1, 1956, in Vandalia, the son of Paul Oetjen and Flossie (Ritchey) Cooney.
Skip is survived by his mother: Flossie Cooney of Vandalia; children: Kevin Mays and wife Rebecca of VanBuren, Missouri, Clifford “Chip” Oetjen and wife Tonya of Centralia, Sherri Oetjen of Centralia, Lacea Swann and Casey of Pocahontas, Arkansas, Kayla Holder and husband Rickey of Pocahontas, Arkansas, and Jamie Throesch and husband Joseph of Pocahontas, Arkansas; 14 granddaughters, 4 grandsons, and 4 great-granddaughters; a brother: Terry Oetjen and wife Carolyn of Pocahontas, Arkansas; two sisters: Barb Denning and husband Kent of Shobonier, Illinois and Dottie White and husband Logan of Vandalia; and a sister-in-law Cathy Oetjen of Pocahontas, Arkansas, several nieces and nephews; and special friend: Kathy Hemmer of Centralia.
Skip was preceded in death by his father and step-mother: Paul and Bertha Oetjen, his son: John Michael Morse, his son in law: Donnie” Speedy” DeClue, two brothers: James Oetjen and Paul Oetjen, and a sister: Joyce Newton.
Skip worked most of his life as a mechanic. He enjoyed taking care of his horses, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed going to the Sport Show in Jonesboro. Skip loved spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends.
Per Skip’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and no public services will be held.
