CLINTON COUNTY — State Assistant Appellate Prosecutor Lorinda Lamken presented three new charges Monday in the 2017 sexual assault case against a 22-year-old Bekemeyer man.

Monday’s hearing was the first time in over two years that the case against Andrew Lewis had any court activity.

Lewis was initially charged with three Class 1 felony counts of criminal sexual assault by force. On Monday, three additional charges of the same Class 1 felony offense were added to the case.

The case was filed in 2017 following an alleged incident involving graduating high school seniors in Germantown.

Lewis has remained free on bond since shortly after his arrest but the case has languished in court since January 18, 2019, when Judge Daniel Hartigan was assigned the case. He’s currently the Jasper County Resident Judge.

Three judges in the circuit had previously recused themselves from the case. Lewis’ mother is local attorney Janice Pulver who has twice run unsuccessfully for Clinton County State’s Attorney.

Judge M. Don Sheafor presided over Monday’s hearing and denied a defense motion to have the $5,000 cash bond returned to Lewis.

Judge Sheafor scheduled an August 11 hearing in the case along with a potential preliminary hearing on the three new charges.
