SALEM — The Salem Police Department, in cooperation with the South Eastern Illinois Drug Task Force (SEIDTF), arrested two area men Tuesday on drug-related charges.

According to Salem Police Chief Sean Reynolds, arrest warrants were obtained Tuesday for 37-year-old Michael J. Lyday Jr. and 66-year-old David Purcell on charges that included Delivery of Methamphetamine, Possession of Methamphetamine and Operation of a Drug Involved Premises.

Later Tuesday SEIDTF and Salem police executed a narcotics search warrant in the area of South Washington Street in Salem and Michael Lyday Jr. was apprehended near North Broadway in Salem.  David Purcell was apprehended in the area of Vincent Street in Salem.

SEIDTF is comprised of the Illinois State Police, the Salem Police Department, the Flora Police Department, the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office and the Robinson Police Department.
