SALEM — Douglas Lee Davis, born June 8th, 1953 to Carol Lee Davis of Salem, Illinois and the late Oliver Norman Davis, passed away peacefully this week at the age of 68 years.
If you asked what Doug was most proud of in his life, the answer you would receive is, “Everything.” because Doug didn’t do anything he wasn’t proud of. Three of his proudest moments include being a Dad to his sons, Jeffrey Lee Davis (Aysegul Ozen Davis) of Cherry Hill, NJ, Alan Lee Davis of St. Johns, FL and David Shawn Davis (also known as Isabell) of Illinois as well as being Paw Paw Doug to his grandchildren, Davinee (David Shawn), Evren and Alara (Jeffrey), and Jackson (Alan). He is also survived by his siblings, Mark Norman Davis, Dale Wade Davis and Karen Diane Davis, all of Salem.
Doug spent the beginning of his working years in the oilfield with Oilfield Specialties Inc., Illinois Central Railroad and Henne Construction. He went on to become a Certified Master Welder and built numerous water towers around the Florida and Georgia areas with his boys in tow. He shared his strong work ethic and skills with his sons on the road and they carry those lessons with them still, today. On a lighter note, Doug never met a stranger and if you were fortunate enough to speak with him, you did not escape the conversation without hearing a classic Doug joke or two that you will probably never forget.
At this time the family has chosen to remember Doug privately, together, as he would have wanted, and no formal services have been scheduled. Notes of encouragement, condolence or flowers can be sent to his mother’s home at 606 W. Allmon Street, Salem, IL 62881.
