Anthony M. Knappier was first arrested in February following an investigation that started when the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department received a report about the sexual assault of a juvenile.

Deputies responded to Lot #30 of the Rolling Meadows Trailer park on IL Hwy 37 in rural Mt. Vernon.

Deputies subsequently took protective action at the scene to ensure the well-being of juveniles in the residence. Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office and investigators from the Department of Children and Family Services were then contacted to take over the investigation.

Knappier was subsequently charged with Class 2 felony criminal sexual assault of a family member under the age of 18. He was then charged in March with the same offense in a separate case.

In July he pleaded guilty to both charges and on Thursday was sentenced to 14 years in each case to be served concurrently.
