WASHINGTON COUNTY — Authorities have identified the body found Wednesday in a burned vehicle in Radom as a 75-year-old Mt. Vernon woman.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, at 2:21 p.m. Wednesday, Washington County Coroner Mark Styninger pronounced Genevieve Barciszwski dead at the scene. Dental records were used to confirm Barciszwski’s identity.

Her body was reportedly inside a vehicle that had been found burning around 1:19 p.m. Wednesday at St. Michael’s Cemetery near Radom.

The fire had been called in by a neighbor of the cemetery who had seen the flames.

An autopsy was conducted in O’Fallon on Thursday but the cause of death is pending, awaiting the results of further tests.

The death continues to be investigated by the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigation Unit and the Illinois State Fire Marshall’s Office.

No further information has been released.
