Joann J. Nelson, 92, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 6:30 am May 16, 2022 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
She was born July 19, 1929 in Mishawaka, Indiana to the late Louis E. and Ruth I. (Bibb) Jones. Joann married Donald Nelson on February 14, 1953 in Mount Vernon, Illinois. They were blessed with fifty-three years of marriage before he preceded him in death on November 11, 2006.Joann is survived by her son, James Nelson of Mount Vernon, Illinois; granddaughters, Corinne Nelson of Newport Beach, California, Sophia Nelson of Cincinnati, Ohio, Cecily Nelson of Chicago, Illinois; daughter-in-law, Elaine Gillespie of Cincinnati, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents and husband, Joann was preceded in death by her son, William G. Nelson; sister, Helen F. Talbert; brothers, Charles E. and James William Jones; and daughter-in-law, Jaime Nelson. Mrs. Nelson was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a member of Presbyterian Women. She was a Deacon and Elder at the church and was active in Presbyterian Women Priscilla Circle.
A Visitation will be held Friday, May 20, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 10:30 am with Reverend Stacy Tate officiating.
