CENTRALIA — Betty Overturf, 87, of Centralia, passed away Friday, June 17, 2022, at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia.

She was born December 16, 1934, on the family farm in DuQuoin, the daughter of Charles Ray and Wanda (Silkwood) Ray. She married Bob G. Overturf on July 1, 1950, in Christopher and he preceded her in death on October 27, 2020.

Betty is survived by her two daughters Kathryn Rapp of Centralia and Sharon Stack and husband Stanley of Belleville, Illinois; four grandchildren: Kerry Pitchford and significant other B.J. Lamb of Centralia, Gena Albert and husband Scott of Carbondale, Erin Cook and husband Ryan of Belleville, and Ryan Stack of Westminster, Colorado; four great-grandchildren; her sister: Lynda Fornear and husband Adam of Sesser; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Charles and Wanda Ray, husband: Bob Overturf, three brothers: Arthur Ray, Bill Ray and Charles Ray, and a sister: Patricia Huebner.

Betty worked at Montgomery Ward for 18 years until she retired in 1978. She had a passion for raising and releasing butterflies. Betty was very talented in counter cross-stitching and sewing. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Centralia. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.

Per Betty’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and no public services will be held. Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Street Centralia, Illinois 62801, 618-532-3523, are honored to be of service to the Overturf family.
