CENTRALIA — The City of Centralia is reminding voters of consolidated elections in April that will select a Mayor and two city council members.

Petition forms and information will be available in the City Clerk’s office beginning August 28, 2018.

This election will be for the seats currently held by Mayor Tom Ashby, and Council Members William “Bill” Smith and David Sauer. They are all 4 year terms.

Candidates may begin circulating the petitions sheets on August 28th. Signed nominating petitions must be submitted to the City Clerk’s Office during the statutory filing period of 7:30 a.m. Monday, November 19th until 5 p.m. Monday, November 26th.

If five (5) or more candidates file for the Mayor’s seat or nine (9) or more candidates file for the two (2), four-year term Council positions, a Primary election will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2019.

The General Election will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2019. The successful candidates will be seated at the first regular or special meeting in May 2019.

The City Clerk’s Office is located at Centralia City Hall, 101 S. Locust, Centralia. Office hours are 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Candidate Guide is available on the State Board of Elections website at elections.il.gov.

All candidates should consult the guide and are advised to obtain legal counsel regarding their qualifications for office and how to correctly circulate, complete and file their petitions.
