COVID-19 Closings, cancellations, services

CLOSINGS

  • All public and private schools through March 30
  • Centralia Recreation Complex will close until March 31. All programs are suspended until further notice.
  • The Centralia Community Youth Center After School Program, located at 1224 East Rexford Street, Centralia, Illinois, will be closed until March 30, 2020.
  • Kaskaskia and Rend Lake colleges are closed for the remainder of the spring semester
  • Senior Services of Marion County is closed until further notice. Staff should report to work. If you need assistance call 533-4300
  • VFW will close until March 30
  • Rolland Lewis community building is closing through Wednesday, April 1, as District 80 will be using the location as a lunch distribution center. All events previously scheduled or the building during that time are canceled.
  • The Centralia Public Works Department is now restricted to necessary personnel.
  • American Legion in Centralia closed until March 30.
  • All Secretary of State Driver’s Facilities are closed until March 31.
  • Midland Area Agency on Aging office will be closed. Staff will still be available to answer questions and provide service via telephone at 618-532-1853
  • Marion County State’s Attorney’s Office will only be open from 8 a.m. until noon Monday through Friday through March 30 for public entry. After noon, staff can be reached by phone.

CANCELLATIONS

  • Celebrity Waiter Dinner at DoubleTree in Mt. Vernon on March 28th has been rescheduled for August 15
  • Marion County $.50 Breakfast will not be held at this time. For those that have purchased your breakfast ticket, please call the Marion County Farm Bureau at 618-548-2100. 
  • The St. Teresa Marydale Church, in rural Carlyle, Chicken Dinner for March 29 has been canceled. The Quilt Raffle has also been canceled but that same quilt will be on raffle again at the fall dinner
  • BPW Reality Store with area 8th Graders on March 27 has been canceled.
  • The Greater Centralia Chamber of Commerce is hosting a “Chamber Lunch Take-Out Day” on Wednesday in place of their monthly luncheon to encourage everyone to order lunch from local restaurants.
  • First Presbyterian Church, Centralia, has canceled all services/gatherings through the end of March due to Covod-19.

SERVICES

  • The Sandoval School District has announced that a school bus will be used to distribute free breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday to all students during the duration of the mandated school closure.
  • Meals will be delivered to specific distribution locations at times listed here.
  • Emergency Child Care at Odin Bethel Church
  • Free lunches for Iuka students can be picked up at the school
  • Free lunches for Kell students can be picked up at the school
  • Central City School will be making food deliveries daily by bus. The route can be found here. They will also have food available for pickup in their gym each day from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • McCalister’s Deli in Mt. Vernon will be giving away free lunches to children during the duration of school closures.
  • City Hope Church in Centralia is offering to do grocery shopping and run errands for people over 60 in the community or those with compromised immune systems. Call 533-3349 or email hello@cityhope.tv
  • Jimmy Johns in Centralia will be offering a free Lil’Lunch to all students 13 and younger on Wednesday starting on the 18th
  • Mt. Vernon Township High School is providing breakfasts and lunches at 11:30 a.m. at 320 S. 7th Street in H building. This is for any student 18 and younger.
  • Centralia High School will be providing students free lunch Monday through Friday.  Buses will run daily routes through the city to provide those meals.
  • Dollar General stores across the country are setting aside the first hour of each morning for only senior citizens to shop.
  • The Rock Church on Airport Road in Centralia is handing out free food packages to families on a drive-through basis from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday.
  • Starting Thursday, March 19, Centralia Walmart store will close at 8:30 p.m. and reopen at 7 a.m. until further notice.
  • Starting March 24th, 2020 every Tuesday from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. Walmart will allow seniors to shop. Associates will be able to shop 1 hour after closing 3/19 and 3/20 from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. while the store is closed.
