KINMUNDY — A Marion County beach has been reopened to swimmers, after it was closed when the Illinois Department of Public health discovered bacteria in the water last month that could make people ill.
Due to heavy rains and a large runoff into Forbes Lake, high levels of E. Coli bacteria were discovered last month and resulted in the closure of Rocky Point Beach at Forbes State Park.
But recent tests show the water is now safe and the health department has agreed to reopen the beach to swimmers, which will be a welcome relief to many trying to find some relief from the summer heat.
