MARION COUNTY — The roster of Marion County candidates for the March primary is complete, as the deadline to submit nomination packets was Monday night.
According to Marion County Clerk Steve Fox, two Republican candidates will be on the ballot for State’s Attorney.
Salem lawyers Bill J. Milner and Tim Hudspeth will face off in a Republican primary race for the seat being vacated by Democrat State’s Attorney Matt Wilzbach.
Incumbent Democrat Supervisor of Assessments Patty Brough is unopposed for her seat as is Democrat incumbent Circuit Clerk Ronda Yates.
Three candidates are in the running for Marion County Coroner. Two Democratic candidates, John Hinkel, of Patoka, and Nick Parker, of Salem will face off in the primary, with the winner facing incumbent Republican Troy Cannon in the November 2016 general election.
In County Board District 1, Republican appointee Angela Hiestand is running unopposed for the seat she currently holds, and in District 2, incumbent Republican Creighton Engle is running unopposed in the primary as well as Democrat Sue Andrews.
In District 3, Democratic incumbents Greg Smith and Terry Johnston are running for reelection to their seats, while newcomer Steve Whritenour, seeks election to a four-year spot.. Republican appointee Bill Henson is running unopposed for the unexpired 2-year seat he currently holds in District 3.
Ray Albert Jr., of Odin, who intended to run against Henson for the unexpired 2-year seat in District 3, mistakenly submitted petitions for a 4-year term against Smith and Johnston. He says he intends to withdraw his petitions for the 4-year seat. Albert can still run for the seat as a write-in candidate, or the Democratic Party can caucus him in as a candidate in the November general election.
In District 4, John Lynch, of Centralia, is running, as is incumbent Democrat Gary Jo Sanders, and Republican Judith Meeks-Hakim.
In District 5, Republican newcomers Adam Smith and Richard Charlton are running, as is Democrat Danny Stover and incumbent Democrat Debra Young.
