Qwinton “Turtle” Shackleford has remained in custody of the Marion County Jail since his September arrest, with bail set at $250,000. Shackleford appeared with his attorney Thursday in Marion County Court and the trial date was confirmed. Attorneys estimate the trial will take three days before being given to the jury for deliberation.
Shackleford is charged with Class X felony aggravated battery from the discharge of a firearm and Class X felony armed robbery with a firearm. Each Class X felony is punishable by up to 30 years in prison if convicted, along with a fine of up $25,000. These offenses are not probationable.
He allegedly shot and injured Myron Smith in his North Cherry Street home after a dispute broke out over money.
Smith told police that Shackleford became upset and made threats as he left the residence, only to return about 30 minutes later, with a gun and demanding money.
Shackleford allegedly shot Smith and took $200 in cash from him, then fired a second shot that didn’t hit anyone and left the residence.
According to police, Smith was not going to report the shooting until the seriousness of his injury required him to go to the hospital.
