BENTON — A Mt Vernon man was sentenced on January 26th, 2016 to federal prison on cocaine related charges, James L Porter, Acting United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced yesterday.

Darrain D Bowdry, 30 years of age, was sentenced to 151 months in federal prison, with three years’ supervised release following his imprisonment, and fined $400. Bowdry had previously pled guilty to two counts in a federal indictment.

Count 1 charged that on November 4th, 2014 at approximately 2:36pm, Bowdry knowingly and intentionally distributed cocaine. Charge 2 charged that on November 4th, 2014, Bowdry knowingly and intentionally distributed cocaine.

The investigation in this case was conducted by the Joint Narcotics Unit of the Mt Vernon Police Department and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.

The case is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney George Norwood.
