WAYNE COUNTY — The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office received several complaints Friday from area residents advising are receiving phone calls telling them they have won vacations and/or money and that in order to process their winnings they need either a credit card number or money order sent to them.

The sheriff’s office advises that these are scams and no information should be given to these callers. They are routing their numbers through local area prefixes in order to attempt to make it seem legitimate, but again they are only scams.

If you receive any calls similar to this, tell them that you are going to report the call to your local law enforcement agency and this usually gets the calls to stop.

Law enforcement asks that you share this information with others and especially the elderly who may not be able to see this message and are often the target for these people.
