According to Mt. Vernon police, around 3 p.m. Wednesday, a Mt. Vernon patrol officer made contact with 21-year-old Darrell L. Haynes as he sat in a vehicle in the 500 block of South 21st.

The officer reports he knew there would be probable cause to arrest Haynes in connection with the December 17, 2015 armed robbery of the Heights Financial office at 2929 Broadway, in Mt. Vernon.

The officer ordered Haynes out of the vehicle, but Haynes reportedly refused to exit. Officers began to negotiate with Haynes and he eventually surrendered without further incident.

Haynes was taken to the Jefferson County Jail on charges of armed robbery and obstructing a police officer. He remains in custody awaiting the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.

Two other men, 22-year-old Denzal Haynes and 26-year-old Steven Collier, were arrested earlier in connection with the Heights Finance robbery. They both remain in custody of the Jefferson County Jail.
