MOUNT VERNON — For the third time in a week, a Jefferson County school has been evacuated due to a security threat. This time, Casey Middle School was evacuated before 11 a.m. Monday due to a bomb threat.

At press time, authorities including the Mount Vernon Police Department are on scene to perform a safety walkthrough of the premises.

No injuries are reported at this time. Parents of Casey students were encouraged to pick their children up at nearby Hall Early Childhood Center.

Officials with Mt. Vernon District 80 schools indicated that other schools within their district were unaffected by the incident at Casey.

Classes last week at Mt. Vernon Township High School were cancelled on Tuesday and Wednesday after school officials discovered bomb threats to the facility on both days. Then on Thursday officials at Hamilton County Junior/Senior High School in McLeansboro cancelled classes at that school after receiving a bomb threat to that school. An arrest in the Hamilton County threat was made Friday, when a 15-year-old juvenile male was taken into custody.

On Sunday, Franklin County officials made the decision to cancel classes Monday at Sesser-Valier, after receiving a bomb threat to that school.
