CHICAGO (AP) — An Illinois group has rated state judges who will be on ballots during the March 15 primary.

The Illinois Civil Justice League says three judges in St. Clair County received the lowest rating, “not recommended.” It says they resigned and reapplied to run uncontested in the primary so they wouldn’t have to meet the higher threshold for retention.

The group says it categorized most judges as “highly recommended” or “recommended.”

The league formally releases its ratings Thursday. Those ratings and the judges’ responses to questionnaires will be on its website.

The group didn’t endorse candidates, so in many cases judges running against each other in the Democratic or Republican primaries will have the same rating.

Other incumbent judges will stand alone in the November election. They will need 60 percent of the vote to win retention.
