MOUNT VERNON — Three juveniles were taken into custody Wednesday morning by officers of the Mt Vernon Police Department.

At 7:29 a.m., officers responded to the area of South 24th and Wescott for a report of a subject riding a four wheeler in the roadway. After further investigation officers were able to locate the juvenile who had been riding the four wheeler and also located three parked four wheelers in the area.

Upon checking, two of the four wheelers were found to be stolen from offenses that occurred in Jefferson County including the one the juvenile had been riding.

The fourteen-year old juvenile was taken into custody. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department was notified and sent a detective to assist Mt Vernon officers with the investigation.

After further investigations by detectives from the Mt Vernon Police Department and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department two more juveniles (ages 15 and 14) were located and taken into custody.

All three were on probation at the time of this arrest and have been incarcerated in the Franklin County Juvenile Justice Center pending a court date in Jefferson County courts. All three are considered innocent until proven guilty in court.
