CUMBERLAND COUNTY — A 40-year-old former Neoga, Illinois police officer who was fired earlier this month due to allegations of criminal conduct has formally been charged in Cumberland County Court with sex-related offenses allegedly involving a 16-year-old girl.

John Dilger is charged with Class 1 felony criminal sexual assault and Class 2 felony aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

According to court records, Cumberland County State’s Attorney Jonathan Braden was recused from the case as was Resident Circuit Judge Millard Everhart, since they both worked with Dilger on court cases.

Jasper County State’s Attorney Chad Miller has been appointed special prosecutor to replace Braden, and the Fifth Judicial Circuit in Mt. Vernon will assign a judge to replace Everhart in the case.

Dilger is free on $25,000 bond.
