MARION COUNTY — A May 16 jury trial setting has been confirmed in Marion County Court for a 26-year-old Centralia man charged with attempted first degree murder and aggravated battery for allegedly shooting a man in September as their vehicles approached each other on the south side of Centralia.

After months on the run, Charles Demarcus Collins was captured in February by the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force out of East St. Louis, after the agency learned Collins was at a home in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Centralia Police Chief Doug Krutsinger said the man shot, Fernando Calcutt, identified Collins, also known as “Squirt,” as the person who shot him.
Calcutt was reportedly shot in the right arm as the two vehicles passed each other on Linden near the 4th Street in Centralia. He was able to drive himself to the hospital and was later discharged.
Krutsinger said Collins was injured in an August 23rd shooting incident in the Maulding Drive area that resulted in the death of his friend 24-year-old Dustin Ryhnes of Irvington.
That shooting remains under an investigation being headed by State Police. There have been no arrests in that shooting.
