MARION COUNTY — Nearly 300 Ameren customers were without power Tuesday, after heavy storms rolled through the listening area leaving trees, tree limbs and power lines down in their wake.
Hail, heavy rain and damaging winds were reported throughout the area. Most of the reports of downed power lines and tree limbs were in the Interstate 57 and Route 161 area, which was also where most of the power outages were being reported. Uprooted trees were also reported in the listening area, along with damaged sheds.
While more power outages were reported in Marion County, storms battered counties throughout our listening area. Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies were called out to Rend Lake Tuesday afternoon to perform a water rescue after a boater became stranded on the lake due to the storms.
More severe weather was reported in the Metro East area, with some schools postponing busing students until the storms had passed.
Stormy weather is expected to continue through the night and return to the area Wednesday, as high temperatures and rain storms are predicted to usher in severe thunderstorms.
