WASHINGTON COUNTY — The Illinois Department of Transportation is alerting motorists that starting May 2, road construction will begin on Interstate 64 between mile posts 45 and 61 to complete pavement repairs.

The construction will require both eastbound and westbound I-64 to be reduced from two lanes to one lane in Washington County from the Clinton County line to the Jefferson County line throughout the spring season. All work is anticipated to be completed before this summer.

Major delays are expected and advance message boards will be utilized to alert traffic of real-time backups. Motorists should reduce speed and obey all warning signs when traveling through the work zone.
