MOUNT VERNON — A 26-year-old Mt. Vernon man is in the Jefferson County Jail, after Mt. Vernon police reportedly found him late Wednesday night pointing a gun at a group-of people in the 1600 block of South 12th.
Adrian Carruth reportedly fled on foot but was apprehended by officers who ordered him to drop his weapon. He was quickly apprehended and a 9 mm Beretta was seized.
Officers had responded to the area on a report of people armed with guns. Carruth was arrested for alleged possession of a firearm by a felon, no valid FOID card and resisting arrest.
While officers were conducting follow up investigations from the Carruth arrest, they were informed of another person in the area who was believed armed. Officers then made contact with 24-year-old Jermain Hopkins.
As officers were speaking with Hopkins, he reportedly began to flee on foot and during the foot pursuit he allegedly removed a loaded Glock handgun from his waistband and threw it just before being apprehended.
Hopkins was arrested for alleged possession of a firearm by a felony, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, no FOID card, and resisting arrest.
Both Carruth and Hopkins remain in the Jefferson County Jail awaiting the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.
