NORMAL, Ill. (AP) — A busy intersection on the edge of the Illinois State University campus in Normal will close this month for improvements related to the high-speed rail project between Chicago and St. Louis.

The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reports that the intersection of University and Beaufort streets will be shut for three weeks starting in middle or late May.

City Manager Mark Peterson says several other intersections will get safety upgrades this summer to allow for Amtrak’s 110-mph service.

Construction could also start this month on a second platform at Normal’s Uptown Station as part of $2.5 million contract for improvements at the station.
