SOUTHERN ILLINOIS — Authorities received a report this morning of a possible sighting of a vehicle believed involved in the abduction last week of a 9-year-old Tennessee girl at the hands of her uncle.

Carlie Marie Trent went missing on May 4. She is from Rogersville, Tenn. Police believe she was abducted by her uncle, Gary Lewis Simpson and they may have been spotted in Southern Illinois Thursday.

Tennessee police say she was signed out of school under false pretenses by Simpson, her non-custodial uncle.

Simpson is a 57-year-old white male, 5-feet 10-inches tall, and 175 pounds. He was last seen wearing a brown cap, a dark colored shirt and jeans. He has been placed on the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations 10 Most Wanted List.

Carlie has blonde hair and blue eyes. She is 4-feet-8 inches tall and weighs around 75 pounds.

Police believe they were in a white 2002 Dodge conversion van. The van has a dark stripe down the middle with light-gold running boards and paint is chipping off the hood. It had Tennessee license number 173GPS.

According to the Mount Vernon Police Department, a report was received Thursday morning that a 2002 Dodge Conversion van matching that description was spotted in the Jefferson County/Washington County area.

The TBI says there have been possible sightings of Carlie Trent in 11 states, but no real evidence about her location.

According to the TBI, authorities have developed “specific and credible information which leads law enforcement to believe the child is in imminent danger of serious bodily harm or death.”

If you see Carlie, her uncle, or this vehicle, please call 911 immediately.

The United States Marshals Service has offered a reward of $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of Simpson and the safe recovery of Carlie. Carlie’s pediatrician has indicated to TBI he will offer $10,000 in reward money for information leading to her safe recovery.
