CLINTON COUNTY — A 49-year-old Breese man is in the Clinton County Jail on a formal charge of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim more than 5-years his junior.

Gary Wintermann, a registered sex offender, was arrested following an alleged incident at a Wamac residence Thursday night

Details of Thursday’s alleged incident have not yet been released, but his bail has been set at $30,000 and he is to have no contact with the alleged victim or anyone under the age of 18. A request for a recognizance bond was denied. The incident was unrelated to another sexual abuse report later in the evening in Wamac.

Wintermann was placed on the Sex Offender Registry following his 2007 conviction in Marion County for sexual exploitation of a child, a misdemeanor. Wintermann was ultimately sentenced in that case to 160 days in jail, 2-years probation, a fine and required registration.
