SALEM — The Salem Police Department has announced the results of recent tobacco compliance checks.

A total of 17 tobacco retailers were inspected in the third of three rounds of compliance checks, and two retailers were found to be in violation of the law by selling tobacco to a minor.

Police issued notices to appear in court to Cynthia Spencer, a clerk at Farm Fresh on East Main Street in Salem, as well as to Michael Bartley, a clerk at Knapp Mart on South Broadway Avenue in Salem, for allegedly selling tobacco to a minor.

Clerks at 15 other retailers were found in compliance and reportedly did not sell to the minor involved in the compliance checks.
