MARION COUNTY — The death of a 30-year-old Salem man Wednesday night is being investigated as an apparent heroin overdose.

A woman called 9-1-1 around 10:30 Wednesday night, telling the dispatcher that Casey Herrington was unresponsive and was not breathing.

Sandoval EMS was dispatched to the scene, but before their arrival the woman informed the dispatcher that Herrington was cold and blue. Marion County Coroner Troy Cannon was then called.

Cannon says his office is investigating Herrington’s death as a likely drug overdose, due to evidence at the scene and Herrington’s personal history of using heroin.

However, Cannon notes that it will take approximately 30 days before toxicology results will be available on samples taken at the scene.

Herrington leaves behind a young son. He was a personal fitness trainer and a car salesman in Centralia.
