Some Illinois prisons could lose their water and sewer services soon if the state doesn’t pay its bills.
Since legislators still haven’t agreed on a budget, several vendors to state prisons aren’t getting paid.
City officials in Pinkneyville say they can only maintain services at their prison for another three months unless they get the over 700-thousand-dollars the state already owes them.
Centralia City Councilman Dave Sauer recently told our own Doug Dunahee on the air that the state owes the city several hundreds of thousands of dollars for water to the Centralia Correctional Center.
The Vandalia Correctional Center still owes the City of Vandalia several hundreds of thousands of dollars in water bills, as well.
