JEFFERSON COUNTY — For the second time in less than a week, authorities have responded to the Continental Tire facility in Mt. Vernon for a bomb threat.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, around 6:15 Monday night, deputies responded to the tire factory in reference to a note discovered in a bathroom of the plant stating a bomb would go off in the mixing room at 7 p.m.
Deputies secured the scene, and the mixing department was evacuated. The Illinois Secretary of State Bomb Squad Officers were called in with K-9’s and no bomb was discovered.
A similar threat was made Friday night, with the same department being evacuated.
Detectives are looking into possible suspects now.
