EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville graduate Randall Pembrook has been named the school’s next chancellor.

SIU-Edwardsville officials made the announcement Monday. Pembrook’s appointment is pending approval from the SIU board of trustees.

Pembrook is currently vice president of academic affairs at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. The Belleville News-Democrat reports that his appointment comes after a nine-month search during which 65 candidates were considered. He replaces former Chancellor Julie Furst-Bowe who resigned to work at a technical college in Wisconsin.

Pembrook earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music education and piano performance from SIUE.

SIU President Randy Dunn says Pembrook is an “outstanding fit” and has the skills needed to lead the campus to success. Pembrook says his new job “feels like coming home.”
