MARION COUNTY — A 23-year-old local musician from Odin was sentenced today in Marion County Court to an additional 30 months probation and 90 days in jail, after he pleaded guilty earlier this year to violating the conditions of his sex offender probation on multiple occasions. But he won’t have to report to jail on that 90 day sentence for more than a year.

Logan Thompson had initially been sentenced in 2014 to 30 months probation for felony criminal sexual abuse of a person too young to give consent.

Less than one year after that sentence, however, Thompson was arrested for driving under the influence in Jefferson County, which resulted in the initial petition to revoke probation being filed in Marion County.

Marion County State’s Attorney Matt Wilzbach says just four weeks after the DUI arrest in Jefferson County, Thompson was found drinking at the Red Dog Saloon in Salem, which resulted in the initial petition to revoke being amended.

According to Wilzbach, his office was then notified that Thompson had missed almost half of his sex offender counseling sessions that were part of the original plea agreement entered on the sexual abuse case, which resulted in additional amendments to the original petition to revoke.

Thompson was sentenced today on the final amended petition, with his 30 month probation being extended by an additional 30 months.

He was also sentenced to 90 days in the county jail, but Judge Mark Stedelin ruled that Thompson wouldn’t have to report to begin serving that time until September 1, 2017.

Thompson was initially arrested in February 2013, after the 13-year-old victim’s grandmother filed a complaint with the Marion County Sheriff’s Department. Thompson and the girl met on a country road where they had sex.

The age of consent in Illinois is 17, at age 13 the girl was too young to legally give consent and was the reason for the Class 4 felony charge to which Thompson pleaded guilty.

A Class 2 charge of aggravated criminal sexual abuse that was reduced was because Thompson is more than 5-years older than the victim. That charge could have resulted in a prison sentence of between 3 and 7 years.
