BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) — Investigators say an Indiana man serving a life sentence in the death of an eastern Illinois girl over two decades ago is a suspect in the 1986 strangulation of a woman.

The woman was identified in 2007 as Eulalia Mylia Chavez of California. She was found in Summerfield, Illinois. The case was reopened.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports St. Clair County detectives from Illinois questioned Larry DeWayne Hall at a North Carolina prison in May. He was convicted of kidnapping and strangling 15-year-old Jessica Roach, whose body was found in Indiana.

Investigators say if there’s a DNA match to Chavez, Hall won’t be prosecuted. He can’t be released from prison.

Hall, of Indiana, is suspected in other cases. He confessed to dozens of crimes involving women, but recanted.

It’s unclear if he has an attorney.
