CLINTON COUNTY — A 28-year-old Vandalia man has been returned to the custody of the Illinois Department of Corrections, after a traffic stop by Carlyle police early Wednesday morning resulted in multiple drug-related charges.

Zachary E. Hawk was arrested following a traffic stop for an alleged license plate violation. Hawk was wanted on an outstanding warrant from the Illinois Department of Corrections.

He was formally charged Wednesday in Clinton County Court with Class X felony manufacture with the intent to deliver between 15 and 100 grams of cocaine, Class 1 felony possession of between 15 and 100 grams of cocaine, Class 3 felony possession of less than 5-grams of methamphetamine, misdemeanor possession between 10 and 30 grams of cannabis, misdemeanor possession of a hypodermic syringe, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Bail was not set at this time as Hawk is in custody of the Department of Corrections. A writ is to be issued to Hillsboro Correctional Center for each of Hawk’s court appearances. He is next due in court September 28 for a first appearance and October 5 for a preliminary hearing.
