JACKSON COUNTY — A 22-year-old Collinsville woman was charged Tuesday with one count of concealment of a homicidal death, in connection with an incident in August when Carbondale firefighters responding to a fire in the woods discovered burned human remains inside a trash can behind the Midas shop.

According to a news release from Jackson County State’s Attorney Michael C. Carr, Tiesha Dawn Anderson knowingly concealed the death of a person who has tentatively been identified as a female by placing the victim’s body into a trash can in a wooded area for the purpose of preventing or delaying the discovery of her death.

The victim has been identified as 39-year-old Robin Stief, of Mt. Vernon and formerly of Salem.

Mt. Vernon police confirm Stief was reported missing by family members on August 25th and they continue to investigate the case.

Missing person posts on social media say it was believed Stief had been persuaded to leave with two men from the Cape Girardeau or Carbondale area.

The offense occurred Aug. 29 in Carbondale and the victim’s burned remains were found Aug. 30 in a wooded area off of East Main Street, near Piles Fork Creek.

The offense is a Class 3 felony and carries a potential sentence of two to five years imprisonment.

Anderson, who was arrested Monday, is in custody of the Jackson County Sheriff, with bail set at $750,000.

According to reports from WSIL-TV, court records indicate Anderson placed Stief’s body into a trash can and dumped it in the wooded area where it was found.

The investigation into the incident and the death is ongoing and is being pursued by the Carbondale Police Department and the Illinois State Police. It’s unclear if Anderson is the only suspect in the case.
