WAYNE COUNTY — A 65-year-old Flora woman who was the subject of a missing persons report has been found deceased.
The Illinois State Police had issued an Endangered/Missing Person Advisory Thursday for Martha Ellen Cook on behalf of Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
The advisory was cancelled after Cook’s body was found late Saturday night in an isolated area of northwestern Wayne County.
A neighbor found the Cook shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday night on a dead-end road northwest of Orchardville.
The Wayne County Coroner’s Office says the neighbor reported seeing Cook’s truck go past his house and thought it was probably a deer hunter. But when he didn’t notice the truck return, he went to check on it and found Cook.
The coroner’s office reports Cook was outside her truck and died from apparent exposure to the elements. She was found near a small creek a short distance from her truck. Foul play is not suspected in Cook’s death.
Martha suffered from Alzheimer’s. She was following her husband on Wayne County Road 2375 North near Xenia and apparently took a wrong turn.
