MARION COUNTY — Bail has been set at $75,000 for a 30-year-old Walnut Hill man formally charged this morning in Marion County Court with felony arson.

Jonathan Downs was arrested Tuesday by Marion County Sheriff’s deputies after he allegedly set his pickup truck on fire in the driveway of his home.

According to reports, Downs called 911 Tuesday and told the dispatcher that he had a warrant for his arrest and wanted to be arrested. He also reportedly told the dispatcher that he was under the influence of methamphetamine, medications, and alcohol.

Upon their arrival at the home, deputies found Downs’ truck was completely engulfed in flames. A relative of Downs reportedly told deputies that he had set the fire himself and then went back inside.

He was arrested on the outstanding warrant that stemmed from a 2013 civil case. Downs was formally charged this morning in Marion County Court with felony arson, and misdemeanor reckless conduct.

If he posts bond, special conditions of release are that he must abstain from drugs and alcohol, as well as submit to random testing, and enter treatment. He is next due in court December 6, for a first appearance with his court appointed attorney.
