WASHINGTON COUNTY — The Illinois State Police released the name of the 45-year-old Mt. Vernon man killed in the fatal accident on Interstate 64 Friday night.
John Lair has been identified as the driver of the Toyota pickup truck that reportedly left the road, crashed into a guardrail, came back onto the roadway and crossed over both eastbound lanes of traffic, before sideswiping a concrete bridge and coming to rest in the center of the eastbound lanes.
The truck was then struck by a Freightliner semi driven by Santiago Reyes of Yelm, Washington. Blair was pronounced dead on the scene by the Washington County Coroner’s office.
The crash is still under investigation by the Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit. There are no charges pending at this time.
