COLLINSVILLE, Ill. — A northern Illinois wrestling team is raising funds to replace wrestling gear and personal electronics after a wrestling meet in Granite City Friday.

Wrestlers from South Elgin were eating at an Applebee’s in Collinsville when the theft occurred.

The team reportedly returned to their vehicle in the restaurant’s parking lot and found the lock punched out on the driver’s side door of the van.

Wrestling headgear, shoes, and warmups valued at $2,500 were stolen, as well as personal electronics worth more than $3,000 were taken.

The team is trying to raise funds before a match this Friday.  Collinsville police said more information on the incident will be released later Tuesday.
