EFFINGHAM COUNTY — A 40-year-old Pennsylvania woman was arrested Wednesday after a traffic stop on outside Effingham allegedly revealed nearly 60 pounds of cannabis in her vehicle.

According to a press release from the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, around 1:04 a.m. Wednesday, Alyson Victoria Rodriguez was driving a 2017 Land Rover rental vehicle eastbound on U.S. 40 when she was stopped for an alleged traffic violation.

Deputies say Rodriguez “appeared very nervous and confused” so a K-9 unit was called to perform a walk around of the vehicle.

The dog reportedly indicated drugs in the vehicle and a subsequent search allegedly revealed the cannabis in the trunk and a small amount of cocaine and a plastic straw that tested positive for cocaine was found in Rodriguez’ purse.

Rodriguez was charged with Class X felony trafficking more than 5,000 grams of cannabis and her bail was set at $50,000.

Altamont Police and the Illinois State Police assisted in the search.
