MOUNT VERNON — The Mt. Vernon police are investigating shots fired Monday morning at 17th and Cherry streets.
According to reports, officers responded around 1:05 a.m. to a call of eight to nine shots fired in the area.
Residents in the area reported hearing a varying number of gunshots within the same timeframe reported by the caller and a casing was found near the corner of 16th and Lamar along with several other casings found at a residence at 1507 Lamar Avenue.
Officers report locating several bullet holes in a vehicle parked in front of 612 South 16th Street. That vehicle was towed as evidence and the investigation into the shots is ongoing.
