FAYETTE COUNTY — A 30-year-old Ohio man was sentenced Wednesday in Fayette County court to 6-years in prison after he pleaded guilty to the lesser of three cannabis charges against him.

Juan Campos-Tavares was facing two Class X felony charges for trafficking more than 5,000 grams of cannabis, and manufacture with the intent to deliver more than 5,000 grams of cannabis, as well as Class 1 felony possession of more than 5,000 grams of cannabis.
Campos-Tavares pleaded guilty Wednesday to the Class 1 charge in exchange for the two Class X felonies being dismissed.
He was arrested in September with two other Ohio men during a traffic safety campaign along Interstate 70. Fayette County Sheriff’s deputies seized 24.5 pounds of cannabis in that stop.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, along with 14 other state and local law enforcement agencies and the Fayette County State’s Attorney’s Office joined in the safety campaign, including Marion and Washington county sheriff’s offices.
Campos-Tavares was given credit for 168 days served in the Fayette County Jail and will have to complete 2-years mandatory supervised release when he completes his prison term.
