MARION COUNTY — Two women are in the Marion County Jail on cocaine-related charges following their arrests Monday during a traffic stop in Salem.

According to reports, 47-year-old Penny Purcell, of Salem, and 31-year-old Kendall Devore, of Effingham, were arrested after Marion County Sheriff’s deputies stopped their vehicle.

A drug pipe allegedly fell from Devore’s seat as she exited the car and she then informed deputies she had another drug pipe in her clothing.

A subsequent search of the vehicle reportedly revealed on the passenger side floorboard several baggies containing a substance that field tested positive for cocaine.

Deputies also allegedly discovered $722 cash in the vehicle, along with a glass pipe. In the trunk, they reportedly discovered scales and another baggie that contained 5.9 grams of a substance that tested as cocaine.

Both women were charged in Marion County Court Tuesday with Class 1 felony manufacture with the intent to deliver between 1 and 15 grams of cocaine and Class 4 felony possession of a controlled substance.

Bail was set at $75,000 for Devore and at $50,000 for Purcell.
