LAWRENCEVILLE, Ill. — Officials in Lawrenceville are reporting a fire broke out around 6:15 Thursday night at the old Lawrenceville High School in Lawrence County, engulfing the old building.

Witnesses say they are being pushed back away from the building as there is a concern the gas was on in the school.

Reports indicate the ceiling has collapsed on the top floor and everything in the attic of the building is considered a total loss.

All Lawrenceville and Bridgeport fire departments are on the scene, but more firefighters will likely be called to assist.
