JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 31-year-old South Carolina man refused medical treatment this morning after he was involved in a rollover crash on Interstate 64 in Jefferson County.

According to Illinois State Police, Mason Farris was eastbound in his 2006 Ford Taurus on I-64 around 6:15 this morning. ISP says Farris was distracted and struck the rear of a trailer being pulled by a 2007 Volvo semi-tractor.

The Taurus overturned and came to rest in the center median with heavy damage, requiring it to be towed from the scene. The rear bumper of the semi was pulled back into place and was driven from the scene.

Farris was charged with driving without a valid driver’s license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, improper lane usage, and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

ISP reminds drivers of the dangers of distracted driving, which causes hundreds of crashes, injuries, and in some cases fatalities per year nationally.
