Radogno says in a press release that while she leaves political office with a sense of sadness and some disappointment, she leaves with no regrets.
She says it has been a privilege to serve, adding that she’s proud of her legislative accomplishments – but that none were achieved alone.
Saying she has always appreciated the support, advice and counsel of her colleagues in both parties, she has particularly enjoyed her friendship and working relationship with Democratic Senate President John Cullerton that started the day they were chosen as Leaders of their respective caucuses.
However, she says she believes it’s time for a new Senate Republican leader.
According to Radogno, she has done everything she can do to resolve the state’s budget crisis and will continue to do so for the coming days.
If the solution doesn’t come in that time, she says she hopes the Governor, other legislative leaders, Democrats and Republicans in the Senate and House can find a path to solve the state’s problems.
She says she’s now looking forward to returning to private life and spending time with her family, especially her five grandchildren.
