SPRINGFIELD — Despite multiple GOP lawmakers changing their “yes” votes from just days ago to “no” votes today, the State of Illinois finally has a state budget after more than two years of a standoff between Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner and the General Assembly.
Republican Reps. John Cavaletto, C.D. Davidsmeyer, Charlie Meier and David Reis all switched from being “Yes” on 3rd Reading to being “No” on the override.
However, Democratic Reps. Michael Halpin, Natalie Manley, Rita Mayfield and Sue Scherer switched from No to Yes.
Thursday’s vote was delayed when the capitol building was placed on lockdown when a woman allegedly threw a powdery substance in Rauner’s office. No injuries have been reported.
Dave Druker, a spokesman for the Secretary of State’s office, which oversees Capitol security, said one person was taken into custody Thursday. He did not have further details.
The governor’s office says Rauner wasn’t at the Capitol Thursday.
House lawmakers were initially scheduled to convene at 1:30 p.m. for the vote.
